Q: What should I wear?
A: We recommend boots(either winter or winterized hiking), with snowpants, gators if you have them as the recent snow is deep, and glasses or goggles, as portions are in the woods. Pants and shirts are also recommended. You will be active, but dress appropriately to be outside for 1-2 hours. Do not wear running shoes/tennis shoes.
Q:What do I get if I win, and how do awards work? Is this a timed event?
A: We will have a stopwatch running, and will be some recognition given to those who finish first. There will also be recognition for those who finish last(but still finish), those who wear union suits, and those who generally make the event a more pleasant experience for their fellow participants. Those who feel as though their time finish time is extremely important will be encouraged to start in the front wave.
Q: Do I need a team?
A: While it is an individual event, there will be obstacles that will require you to assists your fellow participants. This doesn't mean you have to be with the same people the entire race, but you should expect to work with the person in front of, behind, and next to you during the course.
Q. How old do you need to be to participate?
A: We recommend participants be ages 15+. Participants under 15 are welcome, but must have a responsible adult supervise them the entire time they are on the course. This adult will need to check in on the day of the event with the youth, and must also be a registered entrant.
Q:What if I don't feel comfortable on an obstacle?
A: Participate at the level you feel comfortable. If you think it's a bad idea to climb up and over something, we'll agree with you, and we'd suggest you go around and on down the trail to the next obstacle. We recognize that the 5k course by itself may, for some folks, be enough of a challenge, and we have no intention of disqualifying those who chose not to complete every obstacle for safety reasons.
Q:But how will I know if I'm better than everyone if they don't do the same thing I do?
A:We aren't sure.
To summarize: It is our intention to create a fun 5k course on which participants will be able to challenge themselves, but that the average active adult can finish in approximately 1.5-2 hours. We promise that you will be tired when you finish.
