Friends of Mount Ashwabay-

We certainly hope that your summer has been a good one.  We have noticed plenty of smoke in the air.  Could it be that Nordic Skiing is on fire at Mt. Ashwabay?  Over the past two years, through focused planning and effort, our Nordic Team has been working to enhance our trails, build community, and broaden our capacity for outreach.  We are striving to share the Nordic skiing experience at Ashwabay with a greater number of skiers of all ages and abilities. This year, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to serve more Nordic skiers than ever before with fabulous skiing and an opportunity to socialize in a safe and healthy environment.

This off-season we are also celebrating an exciting new partnership with our friends at Book Across the Bay. This partnership allows us to share the use and maintenance costs of a large tiller-groomer. This machine greatly expands our capacity to keep our trails in the best shape possible, and supports both of our organizations in making our community support dollars stretch even further! Win-win-win!

Our next push is to develop a more flexible and efficient fleet of grooming equipment that will greatly decrease maintenance cost and lessen the need for extraordinary volunteer hours we currently rely upon to maintain our trails. Great grooming is the cornerstone of a positive trail experience, and we have been fortunate over the years to have a dedicated group of volunteers providing exceptional trail grooming. We are excited to meet their dedication with an equipment upgrade, and increase the efficiency and overall quality of grooming on the Mt. Ashwabay trails.

In January 2021, we set a goal to raise $45,000 by September 2021 in order to COMPLETE THE FLEET for the Winter 2021/2022 season. Only 6-months later, we are pleased to report that we are more than halfway to the goal!

This winter we received a generous grant of $15,000 from a private regional foundation to get us started on our mission. We have also received $5000 from Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.  We have further dedicated another $10,000 generated from Nordic pass sales. Winter 2020-2021 was our best Nordic season ever and we are excited to roll that income back into the program. The snowball is rolling and we are building momentum.

To make it to our final goal, we are working to raise another $20,000 from our community of skiers and supporters in order to COMPLETE THE FLEET.

We hope you will consider a donation at this time, in any amount, and show your support for the blooming Nordic program at Mt. Ashwabay.
