We have over 40k of trails, fantastic views, and interesting terrain to offer participants who have decided not to ski on the Birkie course this year. We are located just 55 miles north of Cable, so you can ski with us even if you are already planning to stay in the Cable/Hayward area. See the Virtual Race page on the American Birkebeiner website for additional information on choosing the virtual option.
Dates: February 24th-28th. Let us know you are coming and get updates by responding to our Facebook event! The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce has provided gift bags to be picked up at the Chalet or the trailhead. First come first served! Come on up to the Chalet after your race to enjoy a free hot drink, a beer on the deck, and brat, veggie burger or something else from our Cafe menu. You can order from our outdoor service window. Our Chalet will be open 9-4 each day for restrooms and warming, with COVID protocols in place, and the Cafe opens at 10:30am on Saturday and Sunday. Routes: You are free to ski any 43k of our trails that you please, but we have created a recommended route that will work for the Price Haakon (one loop), the Korte (two loops), and the Birkie (three loops with a few extra km to get to 43k). (See our Route #1 Map) Route #2 is for Birkie CLASSIC skiers, and uses parts of our classic only trail system. Route #3 is for the Birkie and can be skied classic or skate; it adds some additional trails (Jolly and Anchor-Seagull). All routes have been marked with colored directional signage to make route finding easy. We recommend that you print or download the map for your chosen route as a backup. Grooming: Our trails are groomed by a group of volunteers from Bayfield Nordic. They are committed to daily grooming of the Green Loop (13.6km) from February 24th-28th, weather and conditions permitting. All of our trails are currently open with excellent coverage, and our groomers will work to keep the rest of our trail system in good condition during the virtual race. We will post updated grooming reports on this page, and on Skinny Ski, daily from Feb 24-28th. Aid Stations: On Saturday and Sunday (Feb 27th and 28th) we will offer two aid stations on the course from 9am-2pm. (NO WATER) Thanks to our aid station partners Anderson Maple Syrup, and Solstice Outdoors. Safety: Our trail system is remote, at times you may be miles from a plowed road. If you can make your way to a trail intersection, communicate the number of the intersection to emergency response personnel.
