We have been busy over the past week getting ready to open this Saturday at 9:30. The paddle tow will be open along with Jerry's Run (formerly Port Way). Please be respectful of the closed signs as snowmaking and grooming may be taking place in those areas. Our newest groomer takes a little bit longer to push out the snow. Decided it is best to use both groomers today!
A big storm came through the other day and our volunteers were busy yesterday clearing trees and down branches and twigs. Today they took a lap on the groomers. The conditions are not ideal but they are skiable. There are still wet areas, grassy spots and lots of twigs and sticks.
The groomed loop is groomed for skate only. Conditions did not allow for setting classic tracks. The groomed loop is Abbey Road to Northern Lights to Seagull to the upper branch of Anchor (powerline) and down rollercoaster. The Nordic Trails are still in decent shape as of this morning.
Watch for rocks at the beginners loop and thinning grass areas. Please avoid skiing on the trails if it is raining. Skate/classic trails: The Buzz, Northern Lights, Anchor, Seagull, Abbey Road, Skid Road, and Jolly Long were all groomed over the weekend tracks are set. We have received about 8 inches of snow!
Alpine: Snowmaking is underway and should continue into Thursday as long as the temps stay low enough. We are looking good to open on Dec 18th! Nordic: 3 to 4 inches for groomed base. Skate and classic trails; The Buzz, Northern Lights, Seagull, Anchor, and Abbey Road have been rolled and mostly flat dragged. We hope to lay some classic tracks on Tuesday Dec. 7th. Classic only trails; Deer Path, Black Bear, Sugar Bush will be rolled late evening on Dec. 6th. Fat Bike: Hopefully will be able to open Tuesday, Dec. 7th Happy Spring!!
Just a heads up about the CAMBA trails at Ashwabay. I know we're all itching to get back out on the trails on our bikes, especially with the nice weather this weekend, but the trails are not quite ready for us yet. There is still about a foot of snow on parts of North facing trails that needs to melt. It's especially bad on Tsuga Daddy. Also, the frost is still coming out of the ground making for potential muddy conditions that can be worsened with bike or foot traffic. It's best just to be patient and take a ride on the roads to get your legs spinning and ready for trail riding. See you on the trails soon enough! |
